What I'm describing here are cognitive distortions. These are thought patterns, or habits, if you will, that usually lead to reactions and responses that are really unhelpful and actually move us further away from our goals.

In this bonus episode to the four-part series on Processing Your Emotion, I'm going to review ten different types of cognitive distortions (thought habits, if you will) and share some examples so that you'll be able to recognize them when they they occur.

In part one of this four part series, I talked about notice and name, the ability to be able to identify the specific feeling or feelings that you are experiencing.

In part two, I talked about allowing time and space, and what it really means to sit with your emotions.

In this episode, part three, we're going to be talking about releasing tension in your body.

This is about what it takes to deal with intense emotions so that you can be calm and clear when you choose the right next step.
