Chronic Disease Unpacked: Addressing The Root Cause of Type 2 Diabetes

25m · Published 20 Mar 09:00

When it comes to chronic diseases, have you ever wondered what makes them chronic? Or did you just accept it as a fact? Something we have to live with?

Well, in this episode, we're focusing on identifying and addressing the root causes of chronic illnesses, and I'm taking a deep dive into Type 2 diabetes.

I'll be unpacking the concept of insulin resistance, the role of fat in the body, and how medications like Ozempic (semaglutide) actually work to lower blood sugar levels.

We'll also discuss what it means to identify and treat root causes rather than just the symptoms, what can happen when we do, and the specific changes that have led to a reversal of type 2 diabetes without the need for any medication.

So, if you're ready to get a little uncomfortable and learn more about what really makes a difference when it comes to our health, this is an episode you want to listen to from beginning to end.

Profits Over Patient Care: The Corruption of Evidence-Based Medicine

21m · Published 13 Mar 09:00

In this episode, I'm taking a hard long look at the way chronic diseases are treated in our healthcare system.

My research started with the following documentaries on Netflix:

  • You Are What You Eat
  • What The Health
  • The Game Changers
  • Poisoned

These lead me to the following books:

  • How Not To Die by Michael Gregor, MD
  • The Obesity Code and The Diabetes Code by Jason Fung, MD
  • Dr. Neal Barnard's Program for Reversing Diabetes

And, lastly, Fighting Pharma: A Conversation between Joe Polish and Calley Means. This last source is a must-watch. Calley Means reveals the alarming efforts of for-profit companies like Novo Nordisk, the maker of Ozempic and Wegovy, in healthcare policies.

My research brought a troubling reality into focus – the evidence-based medicine practiced by most physicians in our healthcare system, is rife with conflicts of interest and corporate influence.

Just follow the money: From foundational nutrition research used to set nutrition guidance (eg., the food pyramid) to trusted nonprofits (eg., American Diabetes Association) to the standard of care protocols used by physicians, the pharmaceutical companies and big food corporations are everywhere.

The Late-Night Snacking Urge

29m · Published 06 Mar 10:00

In this episode, we're talking about the late-night snacking urge that not only undermines your weight loss efforts but disrupts your sleep as well.

To start, we're looking at three common scenarios:

  • Mindless snacking while watching TV
  • Giving in to cravings after being "good" all day
  • Using food as a form of stress relief

Perspective Shift: Instead of focusing on late-night snacking as the problem, let's view it as a symptom. In other words, instead of treating the symptom, let's identify the root causes so we can develop real solutions.

In addition to providing some practical tips, we take a closer look at the physiological and psychological triggers for cravings, what causes "food noise" and the role of sleep procrastination.

For a more thorough explanation on how to master your triggers and create healthy habits, check out my bestselling book, Thoughts are Habits Too.
