"Re-think Meal Planning" Workshop ( Episode 79)

10m · Published 27 Feb 21:00

Feeling overwhelmed by the weekly grind of “simply” putting dinner on the table? Did you know that it’s not really that simple? This episode isn't about recipes and grocery lists; it's a candid discussion about the realities of feeding a family (or just yourself) amidst the whirlwind of life. I share simple tips and practical strategies to help avoid the last-minute scramble and make meal planning & prep a smoother and more peaceful part of your weekly rhythm.

  • Main points:
    • Be aware of what I refer to as“emotional labor”- all the thoughts & feelings related to the activities needed to run a home, including putting dinner on the table.
    • Meal planning seems simple, but it actually involves a lot of steps, all of which require mental energy and many of which require physical energy.
    • Take some time to identify all the steps involved (e.g., planning, grocery shopping, prepping, cooking, cleaning up).
      • Notice your thoughts and feelings about each one.
      • Consider balancing task division so no one person is stuck always doing the set of activities they hate.
      • Recognize that few people have high mental energy during the hour when dinner needs to be prepared.

Do One Thing Well (Episode 78)

15m · Published 20 Feb 18:00

In this episode, I talk about the idea of finding flow in our work instead of being in a constant state of frenetic energy. Multitasking feels productiive, but in reality we're just bouncing around like a ping-pong ball, eventually exhausting ourselves.

On the podcast this week we talk about the work to slow down & do one thing well

  • Main points:
    • It takes work to begin to do something you don’t know how to do
    • Do one thing, do it well, move on
    • Align your time and energy

In this episode, I share both the reasoning behind the idea of slowing down your brain and practical tools to help you do it! Join me in embracing the gentle power of peaceful productivity.

  • Main points:
    • Notice that different levels of energy are needed in different seasons - not just weather season, but seasons of life, career, and activities
    • Notice what things bring you energy and what things exhaust you
    • Acknowledge that chaotic, chronic, urgent energy negatively impacts your health, decreases effectiveness, and increases mistakes

76: Winter Energy

16m · Published 06 Feb 16:00

You can’t change what you don’t notice. Pay attention to the fact that different seasons require different protocols, rhythms and energy

  • We can’t just breathe in - we must breathe out as well. In the same way, we can’t always be running/doing at the same pace. Must lean in slower rhythms at certain times and in certain seasons of our lives - winter, illness, transition, grief, etc.
  • Practice embracing the vibe of hygge during the winter months

75: Low & Slow or Fast & Frenetic?

16m · Published 30 Jan 16:00

Join me in this episode to learn how to break free from the chains of ceaseless busyness and cultivate a lifestyle that enriches your soul. We're going to notice the difference between going fast & frenetic (where we create productivity but the result often leaves us overwhelmed, exhausted, and depleted), and going low and slow, which creates true efficiency and peaceful productivity. Choose LOW & SLOW!

  • Main points:
    • Seek the delicate balance between achieving your goals and healthy self care
    • Notice and decide what kind of energy you want to be in
    • Practice Sabbath- taking 24 hours a day each week to slow down and rest
    • Do regular breathing exercises to anchor you to the moment
    • Consider the importance of listening to your internal dialogues and physical signals

73: Choose to try on "Hygge" this Winter

14m · Published 16 Jan 13:00

In this episode, we're going to be talking about one of my favorite ideas to enjoy the we winter season. I encourage all of us to choose to go “low and slow” as a way of life.

When you slow down in the colder months, embrace the practice of Hygge, and stay in community, you can reshape your life and experience peaceful productivity.

  • Hygee practices:
    • Cultivate the habit of gratitude
    • Notice and enjoy the beauty of winter
    • Enjoy textures and fabrics for comfort and coziness
    • Prioritize winter light - lean into it instead of wishing it away
    • Make one tranquil corner
    • Add smells that soothe and bring comfort
    • Consider a hobby that celebrates life’s simple joys
    • Spread warmth and generosity
    • Stay in community

71: New Year's Pivot

14m · Published 03 Jan 12:00

Let’s pivot into the New Year with a powerful commitment to intentional living.

When we notice if we are going past our limits mentally, emotionally, physically, financially, we can decide to pivot.

If we notice that the direction we are moving in is not serving us, we can decide to invest our energy and regroup. Time for recovery is key as we move toward vibrant living.

  • Main points:
    • Two powerful tools to help you Live A Vibrant Life in 2024 are PAUSING and NOTICING
    • Pause before you decide your 2024 goals,
    • Notice if any areas are out of alignment in your life-
      • Have you gone past your capacity? Why?
      • What has repeatedly gotten pushed to the back burner that is actually really important to you?
      • Are there areas that you want different results, but you keep doing the same things on repeat anyway?
    • Decide to stop going in the direction that's not serving you and/or stop going past your limits
    • Take steps to recover emotionally before hitting the ground running in the New Year
    • Decide 1-3 small steps that can turn you in a different direction, more aligned with your goals, and headed straight for vibrant living

70: An Enneagram Pathway To Stress Management

11m · Published 20 Dec 13:00

Do you ever wonder WHY you react the way you do under stress?
Are you curious about how knowing this ‘why’ can lead to a happier, more vibrant life? In this episode, I unravel the complexities of our emotions, thoughts, and actions through the lens of the Enneagram. A tool for self-awareness, the Enneagram can offer insights into our responses during times of stress, and help manage relationships, especially during the holiday season.

  • Main points:
    • For each Enneagram type, stress looks a little different
    • Noticing how YOU respond in stress is the best first step in learning how better learn to manage it
    • You can also notice how differently the people in your life respond to stress.
      • But remember you CANNOT change how any one else responds to stress or how they choose to navigate the holiday season
    • By remembering that we are only in charge of our own thoughts, feelings and behaviors, we can better manage our own stress and our relationships throughout the holiday season
