Losing loved ones to cancer made me realize how important early detection and screening really is. I spoke with Brian Custer, a sports broadcaster and 10-year prostate cancer survivor, along with Dr. Arif Kamal of the American Cancer Society about this silent killer that's on the rise, especially among Black men.

Getting the facts out there and encouraging men to get screened literally saves lives - if Brian hadn't gone for his annual physicals and PSA tests, his aggressive cancer would likely have killed him within a year. I know the anxieties guys feel about tests like the digital rectal exam, but it only takes seconds and chemotherapy takes much longer and makes you way sicker. Catching prostate cancer early gives you a 98-99% survival rate; once it spreads the odds drop big time.

Brian kept his diagnosis hidden at first, worried about sexual side effects making him less of a man. But his surgeon said with fame comes responsibility. Use your platform to tell other guys, especially men of color, to see their doctor and ignore the stigma. Brian came clean publicly right before surgery and has been outspoken since to empower others.

Same for me after thyroid cancer - I decided any embarrassment or discomfort on my part was trivial next to leaving my young daughters without a father. Getting checked and surviving to protect my family gives purpose to my life. So tune out that little devil on your shoulder putting doubts, excuses and fear in your head when it comes to getting screened. Show your loved ones you value your life together by taking charge of your health. Call your doctor’s office right now and book an appointment while you’re thinking about it!

Josh Peck may be an incredible actor, but he’s just as funny in real life as he was in his childhood roles where he first came into our lives.

I sat with Josh and we had some great laughs while also really diving into the moments that have defined his life so far. As a parent to two sons, Josh broke down the parenting styles that he and his wife naturally lean into, and he had some stories that fellow parents know all too well.

In our wide-ranging conversation, opera singer Limmie Pulliam joins me to trace his unbelievable rise from rural Missouri choirboy to gracing world stages like the LA Opera and the iconic Metropolitan Opera House. Limmie reveals the discrimination he once faced as a Black artist, with opera houses telling this gifted vocalist to lose 50 pounds before an audition.

After taking a 12-year hiatus from opera, Limmie returned more empowered to confront biases head-on. When the pandemic threatened his comeback, a chance Clubhouse friendship opened unexpected doors, from “kitchen concerts” to an offer from LA Opera soon having him make history singing lead roles no other Black man had at the Met.

Yet through dizzying career highs and deep personal losses, Limmie credits his family and friends for keeping him anchored through grief and self-doubt. His is a triumph of spirit, talent, and grace. Limmie teaches us that we must be ready when fortune shines on us, even in adversity. His perseverance through unimaginable barriers makes him an inspiration to me and a rare talent to watch.

Fast forward years later. I was hustling hard just to get by, working a day job in the service industry. But I had an idea, a creative way to break in to my dream field.

I pulled together a micro-budget and small but ambitious team. We had barely enough resources to get the ball rolling. But we made that modest capital work magic through sheer will and imagination.

Soon I saw we could create the perception of scale from practically thin air. I leveraged relationships to get our limited items viewed by tons of eyeballs.

Before I even realized, everyone thought I was a huge success with an empire underneath me. I became an overnight name in my industry.

The power of video and visuals made it possible. Today anyone can tap into that with just a smartphone and authentic stories. Production polish isn't needed - just truth and transparency.
