No. 91: A Conversation with Death Doula about Grief, Death & The Fullness of Life.

1h 6m · Published 23 Apr 14:12

Hey Friends & Kin!

FYI:THIS, JUST LIKE ALL EPISODES OF HAND ME MY PURSE, CONTAINS PROFANITY. THIS PODCAST IS FOR ADULTS AND CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT.Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

_________

Soooooooooo, this episode is a bit of a doozy. The topic is heavy, but it is so necessary.I had the pleasure of being in conversation with Alua Arthur, a beautiful black woman who is a Death Doula. The title alone, “DEATH DOULA”. That is a heavy title. I had a delightful conversation with Alua about her new book, “briefly perfectly human” which can be purchased here. The book is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING… It caused me to look at my life and really begin to think about how I value the fullness of my life. Do yourself the favor of 1. LISTENING TO THIS EPISODE & 2. PURCHASING HER BOOK!!!

The conversation was one that brought about an actual physical response. The concept of grief, and in the way we began to discuss it on the show did something to my mind and my spirit.Take some time and listen to part one of this episode & then next week tune into part two! Run don’t walk to wherever you get your podcasts!

No. 88: HAPPY 4th BIRTHDAY HAND ME MY PURSE + Missy Elliott is A NATIONAL TREASURE!!!

1h 9m · Published 04 Apr 00:15

Hey Friends & Kin!

FYI:THIS, JUST LIKE ALL EPISODES OF HAND ME MY PURSE, CONTAINS PROFANITY. THIS PODCAST IS FOR ADULTS AND CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT.Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

_________

Friends and Kin LET’S START BY SAYING HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO HAND ME MY PURSE the podcast!!!! My baby is 4 years old on this day - April 1st, 2024. It’s been such an amazingly invigorating journey & I don’t play on stopping any time soon! I am learning so much about SO MUCH. Learning about myself and actively going through my healing journey right before your eyes. Working through grief, gratitude & growth. This show has been the catalyst for so many wonderful experiences.

I chose to not just do ONE jam for this episode. I decided to do FOUR + a bonus in celebration of HMMP’s birthday! I was on Spring Break & decided to go to Virginia Beach because it was in my budget. I was able to be close to the water, smell some new air, see some new faces, taste some different foods and just GET AWAY… I’ve said many times on the show that my mother’s father is from this area, the Tidewater Region - Newport News to be exact. Missy is as well, she’s from Portsmouth - so you know in my mind, we cousins. Even though I know we aren’t. Anyway, I love her and I feel like people don’t adore her and cherish her genius the way we should. So I decided to do so. Get into my 4 favorite Missy Elliott songs + a lil’ something I bet you’ve never heard before (which I made the actual jam)! I can’t wait for y’all to listen - all the links are down there. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

This episode was really a reflection. A reflection of the past 4 years and the evolution of Hand Me My Purse. I appreciate all of you for taking this ride with me… YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️

The WE GOT TO DO BETTER QUOTE was amazing:“I have known the joy and pain of friendship. I have served and been served. I have made some good enemies for which I am not a bit sorry. I have loved unselfishly, and I have fondled hatred with the red-hot tongs of Hell. That's living.” - Zora Neale Hurston

No. 85: Are You Living For Yesterday, Today or Tomorrow? + LIVING IN THE RIGHT NOW!

FYI:THIS, JUST LIKE ALL EPISODES OF HAND ME MY PURSE, CONTAINS PROFANITY. THIS PODCAST IS FOR ADULTS AND CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT.Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

_________

Friends and Kin this episode is around a topic that is a recurring theme in my life and it’s something I am actively working on AND THAT’S STAYING PRESENT!!!

I talk in detail about how through therapy I have learned (and I learned it slowly, and truthfully I’m still learning)that there is power and FREEDOM in uncertainty. If you are one who truly believes in a higher power than yourself and you possibly have an understanding of what true faith is - how is it that you really think you are in control of anything? Listen with the intention to take a step back & look at your life - are you living in the present moment? Of course, I share some techniques to help us stay focused on the present and keep us grounded.

Also, Friends & Kin - it’s for the HAND ME MY PURSE GRATITUDE CHALLENGE!!! Will you be joining me for this round?Make sure to listen to episode No. 84 for the details!!! We will be doing our gratitude challenge for 40 DAYS - from March 12th to April 21st. Feel free to also take a listen to the following episodes to get some insight on how we do gratitude challenges around these parts:No. 36 + No. 37 + No. 44.Check those out & get ready because it’s going down - IN A GOOD WAY!!!🤓

No. 84: From Grief to Gratitude + IT'S GRATITUDE CHALLENGE TIME!

1h 9m · Published 05 Mar 05:00

Hey Friends & Kin!

FYI:THIS, JUST LIKE ALL EPISODES OF HAND ME MY PURSE, CONTAINS PROFANITY. THIS PODCAST IS FOR ADULTS AND CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT.Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

_________

Friends and Kin this episode is around a topic that is a recurring theme here on HAND ME MY PURSE. AND THAT’S GRATITUDE!!! Gratitude is the key to the streets. There are so many conversations that I have had about it & I know for a fact, this won’t be the last conversation had on this podcast where I will talk about GRATITUDE. It’s at the very nucleus of so many aspects of our lives!

I enjoyed having this conversation - with myself, and well with you! I went into some thoughts about how grief, stress and just EVERYDAY LIFE has led me to a space where I am a bit off kilter. It’s time for a full on reset. I have named my grief and given it a song! It was nice to change the narrative and shift it a little bit - so that I am not focused on the negative aspects of grief. It is a great conversation about how to switch from grumpy to GRATEFUL. ALSO, IT’S TIME FOR A GRATITUDE CHALLENGE!!!

We will start on March 12th & go until April 21st! I CANNOT WAIT!!! Please please join me! It’s a great time for a reset.
