This episode is a light conversation about it being ONE YEAR since I released my very first episode, the trailer for my podcast, “Hand Me My Purse.” - meanwhile we are STILL in a damn pandemic.  I also wanted to chat with y’all about living with intention, seeking out joy and peace of mind – with strategic focus and celebrating wins for ourselves as well as for other people.  It’s not a heavy conversation, just a quick check in. I am super excited to welcome a very special guest back to Hand Me My Purse.  Today I am having a conversation with my therapist about LOVE, particularly BLACK LOVE during Black History Month.  We also discuss plenty of the things connected to black people joyfully & effectively loving one another. From marriage, dating, sexual freedom vs. sexual repression, Black Girls being stripped of their innocence, parenting, racism and how it has affected Black People’s ability to love, slut shaming and SO MUCH MORE. The conversation got heavy often but of course it was relatable and enlightening.

We also talked about the latest album from Jazmine Sullivan, "HEAUX TALES" - that I am STILL listening to on REPEAT. My therapist actually loved the album and we talk about a few of the tracks on the album and and some points allow the song topics to lead the discussion on Black Love.

My guest & I took a deep dive as we discussed so many of our thoughts around race, politics, the former “leader” of America (I use the term LEADER loosely), police brutality, protests, the savages that “stormed the capitol” on January 6th & so much more.  My guest, Gregory Butler shares w/us the results of choosing to rebel during civil unrest & what that can look like – LOUD AND IN LIVING COLOR. Gregory is known for his participation in the Freddie Gray Uprising. Learn how he got the name, “Gas Mask Greg”. In this discussion he shares, firsthand the events that led up to the day of the uprising & What took him over the edge? We talk about trauma, loss, anxiety, rage and the desire for liberation.  The topic of how we both feel about the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020 came up and it may not be met with smiles. Please don’t think the conversation is heavy & not funny – it’s Hand Me My Purse, for goodness sake. We laugh, share vulnerabilities & definitely some very strong opinions. I don’t want to boggle anyone down with anything too deep.  The damn year just started and Honeychile, about a week or so ago white supremacists were climbing walls, breaking into government buildings & stealing things. They were “STORMING THE CAPITOL” as they so eloquently put it. Nobody has room for a lot of heavy energy - this episode I will just keep it LIGHT like a feather, but still relevant and relatable!

This episode is a conversation about Queen Mother, Mary Jane Blige: her legacy, the gifts she’s given to us. This week she celebrated her 50th birthday & from the looks of it she is living her best life and looking better than EVER. Set goals, not resolutions. Realistic goals with a plan to execute and achieve!  I also take a dive into Jazmine Sullivan’s new album, “Heaux Tales”.  The album really gives listeners a glimpse into what being a woman looks like when we talk in depth about matters of love, trauma, lust & insecurities.  The album is PHENOMENAL & there is something on there that I can imagine EVERY woman can relate to.

It's what we do here at HAND ME MY PURSE - we DRANKS!!! 

Gina gives us PLENTY of options for enjoying the holiday and entertaining folks in person (small groups only that you are safe around) & on ZOOM! We had a good time, Gina curated and created a drink and helped me make it.  And well, I was tipsy by the time I was done. It was fun. A highlight for my Christmas week! This episode is a celebration of the completion of the INAUGURAL season of Hand Me My Purse the podcast. I was able to be in conversation with some of my avid listeners, via a Friday Night Zoom Party – including some of my cousins, guests of the show this season, and people I’ve never met but that LOVE Hand Me My Purse. The common denominator is that they all love Hand Me My Purse and are regular listeners.  We got a chance to really chop it up and dive deep into what Hand Me My Purse was all about in Season One, what they’d love to see in Season Two and we even did the “STRAIGHT FACTS” segment together. It was like those reality show reunions, without the drama and fighting. It was a celebration. We ALL had something to sip on and it was a STRAIGHT UP good time.  I talked about the Hand Me My Purse origin story and shared some of my favorite moments of the season.  We laughed, we drank all different kinds of beverages, we were merry and my guests got to ask me questions about the process, or really anything they wanted to ask.
