Try Again

1m · Published 24 Feb 14:00

Today’s dose of “Vitamin D” is dedicated to failure. Yes, I said failure. Often times we view failure as an unsuccessful means to an end, when actually it’s the exact opposite. With failure, you gain first hand experience on how NOT to do something. In life we’re taught to be winners, but let it be no coincidence that you learn more from your losses. It then becomes your due diligence to find the correct way to do something. Will it become tiresome to keep trying? Absolutely! However, passion and desire never blends with lackadaisical.

So the question is, how bad do you want it? How bad to want your relationship to work? To lose that extra 15lbs? To run the New York City marathon you dreamed of as a teenager? If you answered real bad…then “failure” is not an option. Just take a look at some of the most successful people of today, most of them will tell you they failed numerous times before they got to where they are. Like Michael Jordan for example, did you know that he “failed” to make his high school basketball team? Did that stop him from being one the greatest basketball players in NBA history’? Absolutely not! If the illusion of failure comes your way, take note from Aaliyah…” If at first you don't succeed, dust yourself off and try again”…then TRY AGAIN!

Know Yourself, Know Your Worth

1m · Published 19 Feb 14:00

Today’s dose of “Vitamin D” is dedicated to your worth. How much are you worth? How much do you value yourself? Better yet, do even know yourself? Have you taken the time to get to know who you really are?

Take some time to get to know who you are. What do you like? What don’t you like? What kind of people do you find yourself surrounded by? What kinds of situations do you find yourself in? Figure out what makes you, you!

It’s time to get off the clearance rack and get behind the glass where the valuables are! Get comfortable with saying no. Allow your no, to elevate your yes. I don’t care if it’s your partner, parents, BFF or a million dollar deal that’s wrapped in a pretty red bow. If it doesn’t serve you, run for the hills! Just Drake stated, “Know yourself, know, your worth” and watch how your life can go from “0 to 100, real quick, real quick!”

Love. Life. Live.

2m · Published 17 Feb 14:00

Today’s dose of “Vitamin D” is dedicated to loving life. Do you love the life that you are living and living the life that you love? If not, why? What are you waiting on? Why aren’t you proud of yourself and who you’ve become? How long are you going to stand behind your pride and shame? When are you going to give yourself permission to be great? To be loved? To be wanted? To be authentically you?

Life is meant to be beautiful. That doesn’t mean it’s going to be perfect. In fact, it’s the very opposite of that. However, with patience and clarity you begin to understand that in life everything is happening for your greater good. For example, being initially rejected by Howard University taught me that I have to fight for what I want and when I do, I can achieve anything I set my mind to. The death of my mother taught me that the greatest form of love is letting go and that I can handle any hardship that comes my way. Moving to LA with only $1000 in my pocket taught me that you have to jump for your dreams and take a chance on life.

I want you to love your life, the good and the bad. Understand how beautiful it is and how beautiful it makes you. Take heed to every roadblock that comes your way and jot down the lessons. Take your guard down and be present to all of what life has to offer you. Just like Natalie Taylor belts in her song, “Love Life,” give yourself permission to “love life…it’s beautiful, you’re beautiful.” Choose to love life and “feel alive every time. Just be free, there's a strength deep inside that lets you be just how beautiful you are.” There is beauty in everything; you just have to have the courage to see it.

Love. Live. Life.

Give the World a Show

1m · Published 12 Feb 14:00

Today’s dose of “Vitamin D” is dedicated to showing up and showing out! Have you grasped how amazing you truly are? How much you are a gift to the world? How valuable your very existence is? If you answered yes to any of these questions, there is absolutely no reason why you should not be living the life of your dreams. Your life is your stage. Are you ready to give the world a show?

Stop second-guessing your purpose, your gift. Focus on what makes you happy, what makes you¬¬¬¬¬¬ feel alive, on what gives you that outer body experience. In doing that alone, you will tap into your purpose and exercise your gift. Your destiny is waiting on you. You’ve been preparing for this moment ever since you entered this world. Perhaps this entire time you’ve been searching for it, but you failed to realize that it’s been right inside waiting for you to tap into it.

It’s time for you to let it out and let it show. Tap into your passion. Do what you love to do. Live your life unapologetically. Not for others, for you! Why? Because you deserve it. Take note from Jussie Smollet and remember “you’re so beautiful, give the world a show!”

Be Unwritten

1m · Published 10 Feb 18:39

Today’s dose of “Vitamin D” is dedicated to being unwritten. Depression shows up easily when you’re living in the past singing your “shoulda, coulda, woulda blues.” Just as easy as being trapped in a whirlwind of anxiety because you’re so concerned with your future. However, it’s only when we choose to live and to be fully present that we experience peace. So what’s your deal?

Are you so consumed with what happened to you in that past and what you’ve done, that it haunts you? Are you the busy planner trying to map out all of your next steps that you can’t sleep at night? Just stop! It’s time for you to free yourself and release all of those inhibitions you have on your life. Nastasha Bedingfield said it best in her hit single, “Unwritten,” that in order to find peace you must “drench yourself in words unspoken. Live your life with arms wide open. Today is where your book begins, the rest is still unwritten.”

There’s no better feeling than living your life on your terms, right now! It may mean that you “break traditions. Sometimes [your] tries are outside the lines. We've been conditioned to NOT make mistakes, but [you] can't live that way!”

Be the story no one ever told before. Be Unwritten

Vitamin D: Let's Get Naked

2m · Published 05 Feb 14:00

Today’s dose of “Vitamin D” is dedicated to taking it all off! Yup, I mean every word…it’s time to get naked. It’s time to wipe the shame off your face, strip yourself of off all of your guards and walk with your arms wide open. It’s easy to pretend to be perfect, but how about just being real. Being you.

So what’s your excuse? You doubt your own strength to overcome what’s present in your life, so you hide. Rather than knowing your faults and what you need to overcome, you hide behind them and drown. Why is that? Not realizing that is your “shame” that has you imprisoned in the first place. I didn’t doubt my intellect when I first got rejected from Howard University. I fought for it. I reversed their decision, received a scholarship and hosted my graduation. I’m not ashamed to admit that. Perhaps that’s what makes the rose so special that grew from the concrete. Despite its debilitating circumstances, it was still able to grow towards the light.

Regardless of the situation that is being faced your way. It is important to understand that you can either have a breakdown or a breakthrough. You may not be able to physically see it, but you can indeed envision it. Think of a beautifully wrapped box on a special occasion. It’s amazing to look at, but the true gift is inside. Just like the hit R&B crooner Labrinth, I’d like to know if I could see “Beneath Your Beautiful?”

Or better yet…can you?

Vitamin D: "We Gon' Be Alright"

2m · Published 03 Feb 14:00

Today’s dose of “Vitamin D” is dedicated to your well-being. When was the last time you faced a challenge? How did it make you feel? Scared? Lost? Upset? Doubtful? I don’t know about you, but I face challenges every single day. Just look around, there are challenges that you must overcome each day of your life. Sometimes they come in the form of loved ones, decisions, job opportunities, relationships and sometimes they reside right there inside of you. You must keep in mind that challenges aren’t meant to “take you out” and are certainly not meant to “break you.” So, don’t allow them to. Challenges are meant to help you grow, succeed and believe. So how do you overcome a challenge?

Find someone or something to believe in, even if that someone is…YOU! Everything in life is working for your greater good. It doesn’t mean it will always feel good, but it is definitely working for the betterment of you. It’s not about the challenge that faces you, but how you face the challenge. Take note from Compton rapper, Kendrick Lamar in his hit single, “Alright” that everyday is an upward battle so acknowledge the fact that “ We been hurt, been down before. When our pride was low, looking at the world like ‘Where do we go?’” and declare “Alls my life I had to fight…but if God got us, then we gon’ be alright!”

It’s not over until it’s alright and it’s not alright until it’s over.

“Do you hear me? Do you feel me? We gon’ be alright!”
