Doctor Prepper‘s show guest today is Laurie Neverman, creator of Common Sense Home, one of the most popular homesteading sites on the Internet.

Laurie Neverman is a professional engineer, author, preparedness expert, and an accomplished ex-urban homesteader. Laurie mixes her skills and talents on subjects from green building to wildcrafting, with the best of traditional and modern tech with a twist of humor to present self-reliance information in a way that makes sense to everyone.

I asked her these questions during the show:
Why did you choose a more self-reliant lifestyle?What were/are your homesteading priorities?What are some of the things you’ve accomplished?
Laurie and her husband rent out a portion of their acreage to a nearly organic farmer. The balance is a combination of wild areas (used for foraging), annual and perennial gardens, orchards, and a small but growing assortment of permaculture crops. They are in the process of constructing a larger greenhouse to expand their food production options.

Raised on a small dairy farm in NW Wisconsin, Laurie has many years of experience with producing her own food. This comes together with her college training in math and engineering, plus years of personal studies in health, herbalism, and preparedness to give readers a “hands-on homesteading” experience. This family lives what they write about, and they can teach you to be more self-reliant, too.

Cal is a Christian, a patriot, a gun-owner, and a prepper. He is also a practicing attorney and has been involved in law enforcement for more than 20 years. He lives in an undisclosed location west of the Mississippi River with his wife and various family members.

Wilson’s first book is entitled Dirt Cheap Valuable Prepping, which has been a very successful seller inpaperback and in Kindle formats. The complete title is: Dirt Cheap Valuable Prepping: Cheap Stuff You Can Stockpile Now That Will Be Extremely Valuable When SHTF.

Dirt Cheap… assumes the average family will not be able to stockpile everything needed for enduring a worst-case scenario. Rather, it suggests increasing the amounts of certain items for barter for other needed items when the need arises.

David Chu, an ex-patriate citizen saw many people leaving the country because of the lack of reasonable government continuing as new leaders began to increase their strong-handed take-over of the country. David understood exactly how those people were feeling, since he had been born in China and had “flown the coop” when he saw “the handwriting on the wall!”

“Like most people in the USA, I was pretty much asleep until 2003…I used to be a very conservative, right-wing person who believed in the American dream, the pax americana…so much so that in March 2003, I was helping organize rallies in support of US troops. This was at the beginning of the Iraq war…I was in Santa Rosa CA and we organized these rallies––thousands of people showed up! The Republicans were wondering how the heck did this guy bring out all these people waving flags and these giant placards that said Support Our Troops.  We had four rallies in Santa Rosa during that month alone!

“So that’s where I started from. But then I went down the rabbit hole––very, very deep. To the point where I began to realize there were many problems with the 9/11 was the issue. It took me about a year to assimilate it and to digest it. I really, truly, like a lot of immigrants who come to this great country, I really believed in the good America, the Hollywood version, you know? And when I finally accepted the fact that the only ‘conspiracy theory’ on 9/11 is the government’s propaganda story…that took me about a year to digest. And once I assimilated that, my eyes opened up really wide, and I started to look at all sorts of issues.

He feels that the more people he can convince to stop listening to the smokescreen rhetoric prevalent in the media and propagated by fear-mongering conspiracy theorists and get them to start their own research, they will discover for themselves the truth of what lies ahead and be able to survive.

Bob also operates Black Dog Gun Range, the largest privately-owned law enforcement training facility in Tennessee.
