She has taught at the University of Cambridge, Toronto, Jos, Washington and Western Australia, and worked as freelance editor for Oxford University Press, University of Ottawa Press, Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, and Holt Rinehart and Winston, and has a Ph.D. in modern literature from the University of Cambridge.
