30 minutes with author Harriet Tramer & topic of caregiving

36m · Published 03 May 19:00
Harriet Tramer is interviewed on this program. She is the  author of Rounding the Circle of Love.

Harriet's book, Rounding the Circle of Love,  shares her first hand experience of keeping a loved one at home with dementia and the essentials of caring for them.  Her book offers a good mix of these personal experiences and other  resources and options for those needing help with caring for a family member with dementia. It not only presents “guidelines” from “experts” in their fields but also practical advice from people who have served as caregivers.

I will also be discussing with Harriet the very same topics covered in my books on dementia and Alzhiemers Disease and caregiving, "I hope they know," in English and Spanish, and we will make this an important program for caregivers of a person with dementia, tackling the most difficult questions.

30 Minutes with author J. Dietrich Stroeh .

32m · Published 02 Apr 18:30
Three Months: A Caregiving Journey from Heartbreak to Healing (Folkheart Press, 2012). Join me and the author J. Dietrich Stroeh as we cover  his story of his wife's terminal cancer. Dietrich Stroeh takes readers inside the Stroeh household where home care, medical decisions and much needed laughter give extraordinary shape to an unexpected and devastating illness.

Dietrich Stroeh's beautiful, heart wrenching and, yes, often humorous account of his wife's cancer is both personal and universal. It is a must-read for anyone diagnosed with terminal cancer and also, for the caregiver, who is often left navigating uncharted medical and emotional waters. The tips and resource information that lace through his book are invaluable. The diagnosis of cancer often takes the patient and family deep into dark places filled with fear, anger and loneliness. There are no simple rules to follow, no easy answers as to how to move forward. Dietrich Stroeh has taken the reader of this book on his own personal path and describes what allowed him to emerge on the other side, changed, but able to find happiness once again.

30 minutes with The Men's Bereavement Network Founder

31m · Published 08 Mar 16:00
30 minutes with Sam Feldman, the founder of Men's Bereavement Network - a national Men's Bereavement Group.

Men grieve differently. That is what drove Sam Feldman to create an organization to fill the void after his wife of 53 years, Gretchen, lost her year-long battle with cancer. Finding himself reluctant to share his innermost feelings of sadness in mixed gender bereavement groups, and discovering many other widowers feel the same, he started a men-only group where he lives six months a year. When he further researched, he found that there is a paucity of men's groups focusing on bereavement and, drawing on his many years as an entrepreneur, established the Men's Bereavement Network, with a strong board of directors including Dr. George Cohn, a noted psychiatrist who served on the Board of Directors for America's first Hospice in New Haven, Connecticut.  Share this program!
