The second season of Epilepsy Advocate Radio will focus on an important theme, “OK is Not Good Enough!” meaning that people living with epilepsy should feel like they are working with their doctor to do everything possible, and get the best support, to reach epilepsy independence and achieve their goals.

LaKeisha P. has overcome some major obstacles. As a young woman, LaKeisha got into a serious car accident and learned she had epilepsy. She couldn’t work because of her injuries, and as a result lost her house. After recovering, LaKeisha is now committed to getting her education and today, this mother of three is about to complete her degree in Christian Ministries thanks to the 2010 UCB Family Epilepsy Scholarship.

At 40 years old, Epilepsy Advocate Marla H. was already experiencing multiple life challenges. She was unhappy with her marriage and contemplating divorce, raising three teenagers and pursuing her undergraduate degree in interdisciplinary studies. As if that wasn’t enough, she also experienced her first seizure. The resulting epilepsy diagnosis posed a whole new set of challenges. Marla had to find the right doctor, cope with driving restrictions and regain her confidence in order to move forward with her life.
